Thou wilt show me the path of life: in Thy presence is fullness of joy... Psalm 16:11

Carne Fresca

Professor Duane lectured yesterday behind the kitchen at CVE.  One of the cows had strangled itself in the early afternoon, and good thing the meat professor was available because by early evening we had a refrigerator full of fresh meat for hamburgers, steaks, and carne asada!   It was very educational too!
Jaqui is just a little grossed out!

They beheaded and gutted the cow out where it'd died behind la mansión and I missed that part, but then they brought her up behind the kitchen where a crowd gathered.

Fede and Lilly are mesmerized.  Frankie in the background looks sort of grossed out.

What was really interesting was not just watching the whole spectacle, but Duane's running commentary.  Having done it over a 1000 times, he was the expert knife-wielder, but he was a fount of information on the different parts, how they're best served, etc.  I learned all kinds of fun facts about "this cut being the most expensive in Brazil" or "this is the traditional fajita cut" or "you can see here where she struggled against the rope because it's all bruised."  Fascinating stuff.

Frankie gets in on the fun.
Not too many were brave enough to get their hands dirty.

Karla and I make gross faces!  Asco!

Joel cutting through the bones with a saw.

Never a dull moment!

I love fall!

Now that the weather's colder, it's finally started to feel like fall!  So, in order to celebrate the season, I bought a pumpkin (compliments of Wal-mart) to carve with the girls.  They had never carved a pumpkin so it was a completely new experience.

Karla loved designing what we were going to carve,
Tania absolutely had a blast pulling out all the nasty insides,
And Yaneli wouldn't touch the thing! she just watched.

Jaqui gets in on the fun.
I don't know who was taking pictures,
but it looks like they were having fun experimenting.

I had to pick the largest pumpkin in the box, which made cutting it really hard!

Coconut Cream Pie

Two months later...sorry about the lack of posts.  I've been lazy, I know.

Mom turned 41 and I made coconut cream pie for her big birthday supper.

It was pretty good if I do say so myself!
The Wulf family arrived on my mom's birthday so her birthday dinner was their first meal out at CVE.  I think their 4-year-old, Marshall, was pretty impressed with the face-smashing ritual!
Pie makes for a good smash!
Happy Birthday, Mom!

Now that school has started again, there's more time for me to blog about all the happenings these past 2 weeks of summer. So many fun times, adventures, and memories made! After bible school, everyone from CVE went to Rancho Betania for summer vacation. Two awesome days filled with everything you can imagine! We swam a lot, played tons of games, did a little volleyball, baseball and basketball, sang around the campfire, ate s'mores, crashed for the night in our cabins just to get up in the morning and do it all again! I took my camera, but took no pictures at all. Sorry. Funny story though, one adventure of the trip was Zach chipping his front tooth. It was already broken off before and fixed, but the basketball hit him just right and it broke that piece right off!

A few days after Rancho Betania, our family headed up to Tucson for our own little family vacation. We went to Tucson church on Sunday (love that little church!) and then spent 2 days at a very nice hotel. One afternoon we drove up Mount Lemmon, a big mountain right outside Tucson. We got out a hiked a little bit, it was much cooler up there, and very beautiful.

Nate also celebrated his 12th (although it still seems like he should still be only 4!) birthday! He picked me to smash his face into the cake! Which, he'll probably never do again since he says I about broke off his nose!

I've also got to share a lot of fun times with the girls filling up their free time! Pictured here is the trip we took to Hermosillo to help Rohde and Elizabeth move back. We got to eat at Kentucky Fried Chicken.

One day we drove about an hour to a small town where there's the ruins of an old church which was fun to explore, and also a river where we had a picnic. The adventure of that day was getting stuck in the mud/sand near by the river.

Katie and I also hosted a beauty night with the girls. We did manicures and pedicures, massages, and all-natural facials pictured here.
The girls named the 2 mask recipes I made the poop mask (the one Yaneli's putting on her face here) and the puke mask. They really did look nasty, but they really worked! My favorite part, however, was the massages!

Like I said, school is now back in session. Please keep praying for the teachers and students. This is totally new for us here at CVE, having kids go to school on campus. We need this project to be covered in prayer! Thank you! Dios les bendiga.

The Crazy Week!

Escuelita Biblica de Vaccaciones was this week.
Lots of kids, lots of yelling and screaming and praising the Lord!

I taught a class this year (thanks to all of you who prayed!) with Bere.
We were "las moradas" (purple), 7 and 8 year old girls.
Monica was our helper. We had a lot of fun!

I also had some friends come down this week to help out with bible school.
Audrey, Heather, Allison and Laura and Emily is not in the picture.
I was a lot of fun!
We still managed to make lots of great memories even though we were kept very busy!

We climbed the mountain with the cross again, this time to see the sunset.
It was breathtaking.

Aren't they beautiful?
Keep the prayers coming!

"Ascribe power and strength to God; His majesty is over Israel, and His strength and might are in the skies.

O God, awe-inspiring, profoundly impressive, and terrible are You out of Your holy places; the God of Israel Himself gives strength and fullness of might to His people. Blessed be God!"

Psalm 68: 34-35 amplified

Summer's flying by

Well, Leah's left now, so the big yellow house on Alamo is empty again. We had a great time! She's pictured here by the famous Momo's car.

But I'll only be alone for another week. And what a week it'll be! Summer school finishes up on Wednesday, VBS help is here so we're starting to get ready for that big week (I'm teaching a class this year! So, you can start praying for that!), and general summer busyness.

I've been so blessed to be in a assistant house parent position! I've absolutely loved getting to know the girls and being part of their lives. We have a lot of fun! And they've taught me so much!
Lupita and I were twins one day, not on purpose, but we had a good laugh.

We also celebrated Karla and Melissa's birthdays, which was fun, as always, because it's always a blast to shove someone's head in their cake!
